The World of eLearning is expanding as large number of institutes, colleges, coaching institutes and organizations are adopting online learning together with classroom teaching as their key strategy. There is a popular phenomenon that has emerged in recent days and being adopted by people called ‘Blended Learning’.

For some of you who are still not familiar with the term, lets learn about it in simple words. As the name suggests, blended learning is the mix of synchronous as well as asynchronous learning. In other words, blend of classroom teaching and technology-aided learning wherein, any course or module is taught both inside a classroom with the help of slides, virtual classrooms as well as consumed later by students or learners at the comfort of their homes. Today, learning and training is not just limited to the four walls of a classroom but has gone much beyond that with online learning tools. Various eLearning solution providers have made this possible through their learning management platforms thus enabling learners to consume learning both real-time and offline at their own pace.

But one must wonder about what is the real need for blended learning?

Well, creating and delivering learning courses and sessions that leaves a high impact on learners is the primary goal of instructors and trainers. This can be achieved through creating a blend of both classroom traditional teaching together with self-paced learning modules. Blended learning ensures to keep the learners engaged and motivated at the same time. With the advancement in technology and use of hand-held smart devices like smart phones, online delivery of courses has further become easy and easily accessible for learners too. Thus, blended learning is becoming the first choice for all.

Also, what one needs to understand is that the requirement of eLearning modules and courses differ with subjects, training objectives, and skills. And it’s the ability of the instructor or trainer to effectively leverage technology in the learning process thus, getting maximum benefit from it. There can be content-heavy courses, technical skill courses, soft-skill courses, language courses, or simply subject-specific courses. But the problem arises when one has to decide on how to create a blended learning environment for learners which is informative, immersive, interesting, and flexible.

For instance, to conduct training on soft-skills by an organization; trainers can create interactive teaching slides with videos and animations to deliver in classroom sessions as well as create role plays and simulations for learners to consume them later on the LMS. Thus, before creating any blended learning course, it’s crucial for the instructors to establish the learning goals and objectives. Like level of interactivity required, communication and feedback guidelines etc.

Talking of that, one thing is for sure that Blended Learning is going to stay with us in the coming future and going to make a huge impact on the way learners engage in learning.
